SIMON FIRTH CARTER

(15 Oct 1903 - 9 Nov 1990)

It was in 1923 when Firth (as he went by), Leslie and Bruce went to Bethel, Maine to work in the woods for their Uncle Wade Thurston. While there Firth met his wife Edith Randall who was working at the Bethel Inn.

Firth and Edith came to the Portland area and were married. They lived on Broadway in South Portland for a short time, then returned to Kouchibouguac, NB. When they returned they lived with his mother and father. Firth bought the old Grogan farm but never lived on it. Then in 1929 he bought his grandfather Robert Carter's farm and raised his family. About 1987 Firth gave a piece of land to the Pentecostal Church for a cemetery on the old Grogan farm up Tweedie Brook Road.
