WILLIAM LESLIE CARTER

(3 Mar 1896 - 19 Apr 1971)

Leslie was in World War I from 1917 to 1918. An interesting story about Leslie is that he and James Dwyer who was a nephew to Ward and Sarah (Sullivan) Carter, were in the War together and both in the same unit in France. Great grandmother Elsie had sent Leslie a pair of knitted socks that he had never received. James needed a pair of socks bad, so both James and Leslie went into the Red Cross some where in France and both bought a pair of socks. While James was putting his on one of the socks had paper in it, which read "To dear grandson Leslie". Leslie gave James the $2 that he paid for the socks to buy another pair. Leslie had kept the socks for many years after. Elsie died in September of 1918 before Leslie returned home.
