Nickname:<NICK> Jack Also Known As:<_AKA> Query Cause of Death :<CAUS> Pneumon ia BIOGRAPHY: James was commonly called "Jack" aro und the house, so that he wo uld not be confused with his father, Jame s Garfield. The name Jack stuck with him all his life, it even appear s on his social security card. Jack and Kathryn were childless. Lett er from Kathryn (Kate) Bannon Querry to niece Karen Schim mels Rastatt er. Dated March 16, 2002. "Got your letter and all the informati o n about the family. I was glad to hear about the family. I never kn ew any of them but your mother (Beulah Delores). Jack never talked mu ch about any of the m as he said he was very young. He and Beulah wer e the only ones that ever kep t up on them. I was told by some of th e Christenberry's that his father (James Garfield Querry) was very me an to his mother. I guess that's why she died so young. Everyone tha t knew her said she was a really nice person. I'm sorry I didn't hav e chance to meet her. Jack had a really tough life as a boy. He (a n d sister Beulah) stayed with his grandparents (Christenberry) awhil e after his folks died, but his grand dad (William H Christenberry) wa s also mean as a snak e, so he ran away. He (Jack) was much like a bu m until I met him. I guess I w as the mother to him he never had. H e was quite set in his ways. You didn't t ell him much. We had a roug h time for several years. We had no money so lived places that wer e not very nice, but I always tried to make it as livable as po ssible . After the war (World War II), we began to do better and made it fo r 59 years before he passed away. He was in the Navy for five years ( during the war ). I worked while he was gone so I could buy some furn iture. We started out i n two rooms. They were cute and always clean . That's the only real home he co uld remember for several years. Ti mes were hard then, work was scarce and very little pay. So you se e it isn't what you have in money, it's what you can do when you hav e to. He was never lazy and did all kinds of jobs but we managed. Af ter awhile he got a job working in our local Hospital as a maintenanc e man. He was there 22 years. Everyone there thought the world of hi m. We finally b ought our home, and didn't owe anyone a dime. I'm no t a wealthy person, but ca n live comfortably the rest of my life. S o I am very proud of what he left me. We used to go to Owen County e ach spring and decorate the graves as long as h is Grandma was living , but after she passed away, some of the kids or grandkids took ove r the place so we never went back. She lived in a log cabin, no mode r n conveniences, but she was always nice to me and was glad to see us . She also had a rough life. I found it interesting about the Querr y family. You have d one a great job locating all the information yo u have so far. David and Debra were in diapers when your Mother and D ad were at our house. I think you were t hree or four. Time has a wa y of catching up with all of us. I feel pretty goo d except arthritis . My sight isn't the best, but I keep going. I have a big c at. Sh e is my best friend. She sleeps with me every night. Guess you can' t ex pect much at 83 years. Guess I'll close for now as I have some mo re letters to answer, so hope to hear from you when you have the time.
