John Ayres, son of Moses and Rachel McFadden Ayres was born September 8,1801 in Greenville, South Carolina. The Community of Ayers was established & named for planter and land owner John Ayres.The Community of Ayers was located at the forks of Center & Zama Rd. Other establishments also held the name, a high school that operated between 1890-1919 and a well known wagon factory. John Ayres owned and lived on a large plantation called Oak Lawn in Attala County, Mississippi, which was home to not only him, but many of his offspring and theirs. He was husband to Cynthia (Snow) Ayres. They married April 30, 1822 in Jefferson Co Alabama.
