Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at St. Catherines Catholic Church in Farming, MN for Adella Spanier, age 84, who died Saturday following a courageous battle with cancer. Burial will be in the St. Catherines Parish Cemetery, Farming, MN. Reverend Corwin Collins O.S.B will officiate. Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond. St. Joseph Mission Circle and St. Catherines Christian Women will pray a rosary at 7:30 p.m. followed by Parish Prayers at 8:00 p.m.
Adella was born in Lake Henry, MN to Joseph and Mary (Kortenbusch) Wuertz. She married Oswald Spanier on May 25, 1948 at St. Margarets Catholic Church in Lake Henry. They lived in Herman, MN for 13 years. They then farmed near Farming for 40 years where they raised their 5 children. Adella resided in Cold Spring for the last 9 years. She had been a member of St. Catherines Catholic Church where she served on the Liturgy Committee and belonged to the Christian Women and St. Joseph Mission Circle. She enjoyed cooking, canning, sewing, bingo, casino trips and watching the Minnesota Twins. More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Gordon Spanier (Karen Ortlepp) of Cedar Hills, TX, Gregory Spanier (Joann) of Champlin, Beth Meyer (Mitch) of Richmond, Brenda Spanier-Hoffstrom (Roy Klein) of St. Cloud, Wendy Spanier (Joe Maleska) of Melrose; Grandchildren, Jacob and Zachary Spanier, Neil and Nick Meyer, Christa Hoffstrom, Allison and Maria Maleska; Step-grandchildren, Lisa and Tifany Ortlepp, Lori and Monty Jon Hoffstrom; Brothers and Sisters, Roman (Lila) Wuertz of Montana, Willie (Sis) Wuertz of Cold Spring, Isabelle Spanier of Albany, Hilda Bertram of Melrose and Margaret (Gilbert) Hagemeier of Farming.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 55 years Oswald; siblings Tony, Norbert and Ralph Wuertz, Alma Wenker, Helen Garding and Rose Chladek; and son-in-law Monty Hoffstrom.
