Services for Alma C. (Wuertz) Wenker, age 89, of Freeport and formerly of Greenwald, who died October 22, 2003, at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany will be Friday at 12 Noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Freeport, with the Reverend Fathers Roger Klassen, Julius Beckermann, and Ron Dockendorf officiating. There will be visitation from 9 a.m. to 12 Noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Freeport. Burial will be at St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery, Greenwald.
Alma was born on a farm near Lake Henry on April 9, 1914, to Joseph and Mary (Kortenbusch) Wuertz. On June 18, 1935, she married Henry Wenker in Lake Henry. She and Henry farmed near Greenwald for many years until his death in 1971. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers and the Freeport Senior Citizens.
Alma is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Doreen Wenker of Greenwald and Richard and Kathy Wenker of Alexandria; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Duane Welle of Blaine, Kathy and Mike Winter of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Julie and Mike Schlicht of Grey Eagle; 21 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roman (Lila) Wuertz of Laurel, Mont., Wilbert (Jerrie) Wuertz of Cold Spring; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Hilda Bertram of Greenwald, Rose Chladek of Modesto, Calif., Isabelle Spanier of Albany, Adella (Ozzie) Spanier of Cold Spring, and Margaret (Gilbert) Hagemeier of Farming.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; daughter and son-in-law, Marcy and Glenn Walters; sister, Helen Garding; and brothers, Ralph Wuertz, Tony Wuertz and Norbert Wuertz.
Arrangements were with the Bertas Funeral Home of Chaska, Minnesota.
