(a letter from Dan & Polly Raymond to Agnes Barthle)
July 5 1941 San Diego Calif
Dear Agnes & August
Hi folks how are you all was sure glad to hear from you folks and to know you are all still able to kick. We are both feeling great an having a few days vacation so we are going to spend next week back in the mountains we rented a cabin it will seen good to get away from the coast and early morning fogs for a few days. Would of liked to went back home for a visit but our finacial standing would hardly of made the round trip as we have been on the cash basis since our marriage we hate to start borrowing money now well maybe next year we can afford a trip we are still planning on a honeymoon my job is getting better right a long got my first good promotion the middle of June I am a sub foreman now, in a nother six months or a year if God willing it has indications of turning into a real good posation it sure has been a long pull counting every penny never able to spend a nickle foolishly and Polly has been grand through it all never complains or nags always ready to help squeey the eagles on the nickles to make them go farther. Yes Agnes I got a letter from mom two in fact and one from Burke her letters were hard to understand full of instructions and a sort of a plea not to make her out a liar in front of Mr Polley, Social Security director well Agnes this may schock you but I wrote the letter as she requested to Burke also a letter to her with a copy of the one I sent to Burke and I will have to admit it made me fill very small and cheap but on the other hand Agnes you Know how Mon is if she got's an Idea into her head right or wrong she is going to see it through and until she get this so called pension Idea out of her head I an not going to argue with her you have the right Idea Agnes Polly and I both think it is the least we could do but try and convince Mom is another thing I told her in the letter that we woukd gladly share with her what we have got. we would like to have her come out here and live with us welcome to our home as a Mother not some poor old lady compelled to accept charity from her son & daughter law so Agnes if you can figure out some way we can get this Idea across to Mom without making her think we are to hinder her or beating her out of her pension we will be more than glad to do our share in any way we can well Agnes I guess this is enough said about this matter and hoping this meets partly with your approval for it is the best I can do Polly wants to add a few lines ao I will close
Love Dan
