Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waite Park for Edmund C. Sand, age 79, of 1102 7th St. S, who died Thursday at his home. Rev. Ronald Weyrens will officiate and burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Sauk Rapids with full military honors provided by Waite Park American Legion Post 428. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Monday at Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids. Waite Park American Legion Post 428 will pray at 6:30 p.m., followed by St. Joseph's parish prayers at 7:00 p.m., and Melrose VFW Post 7050 at 7:30 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home in Sauk Rapids.

Edmund was born July 15, 1922, in New Munich to Leo M. & Katherine (Thull) Sand. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII and Korean War. He married Bernadette Otto on February 12, 1949, at St. Mark's Church in St. Paul. He worked as a soil conservationist for the Federal Government (BIA) from 1956-1980. He is a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waite Park, 4th degree Knights of Columbus in Aberdeen, SD, Catholic Order of Foresters, Waite Park American Legion Post 428, Melrose VFW Post 7050, DAV, NARF, AARP, and the Soil Conser-vation Society of America. He enjoyed music, old time country, and bluegrass for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Bernadette of Waite Park; children and their spouses, Allan & Cherry of Mountain View, CA, Catherine & Fred Burkhart of Bentonville, AR, Carol & Dennis Rote of Aurora, MO, David & Mary of Avon, Arleen of St. Petersburg, FL, Michael of Oklahoma City, OK, Patty & Rick Rodland of Alexandria, Ron & Sandra of Lakeville, Peter & Jeanette of South Haven; adopted grandchildren, Niki of Alexandria and Ben of Waite Park; sisters, and brothers, Pauline Kruschek and Syl Sand both of St. Cloud, Joan Otto and Rembert both of New Munich, Jerome of Melrose, Werner and Maynerd both of Avon, Marlene Benkowski of Wheaton, Florian Mayers of Conrad, MO, and Jean Enneking of Albany; 17 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Theresa; brother, Ervin; and sister, Lucille.
