Casper J. Zierden, prominent in the life of New Munich, died at 6:20 pm on August 23, 1945. The body was taken to New Munich this afternoon and the funeral will be held in the New Munich Catholic Church at 9:30 am Monday and burial made in the parish cemetery.
Mr. Zierden was born October 24, 1870 on the family homestead at New Munich. In 1890 he married Anna Klein in Sacred Heart church in St. Joseph, FL. She died February 23, 1926.
Six adopted children survive - James Zierden in Sauk Centre; Sister Luke OSB, Belle Plaine; Geroge H. Zierden in New Munich; and George A. Zierden in Albany; Mrs. Mary Lauer and Joseph Zierden.
Brothers and sisters are Peter Zierden in New Munich; Mrs. Anna Terhaar, Mount Angel, Oregon; Mrs. Elizabeth Barthel, Groton, SD; a brother, John Zierden died two months ago; and 2 sisters are deceased: Mrs. Mary Koetter of Freeport; Mrs. Appolonia Klapperich who died in 1940 and Mrs. Joseph Homberg of Powers, Montana, who died there years ago.
Mr. Zierden was a successful farmer at New Munich and also foremost in civic and community life of the village. He organized the cooperative creamery in New Munich 30 years ago and served as its president for many years. He served also on the board of directors of this organization for 25 years, and was a member of the board of directors of the New Munich bank. He was an active and progressive member of the New Munich Catholic Church. In 1938 he resigned these posistions and went to St. Joseph where he wass in the employ of the Sisters of St. Benedict. He was taken ill three weeks ago.
