New Munich - Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for George H. Zierden 84, who died Tuesday at Belgrade Nursing Home. The Rev Julius Muggli will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call after 2:30 pm Friday at Schad Funeral Home, Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 9 pm Friday at the funeral home in Melrose.
Mr. Zierden was born Feb 2, 1899 and adopted by Casper and Anna (Klein) Zierden. He married Mary Schaefer September 23, 1924 in New Munich and the couple farmed near New Munich until retiring. He was a memeber of Immaculate Conception Parish, St. Joseph Men's Society and had been a resident of the Belgrade Nursing Home for the past 17 years.
Survivors include son and daughters, Clarence and Mrs. Ray (Florence) Funk, New Munich; Mrs. Loretta Thomes, Paynesville; Sister Phyllis, SCC, St. Louis, MO; Mrs.James (Marcella) Nierenhausen, Avon; Mrs. Larry (Viola) Zwack, Freeport; brother and sister, George A., Denver, CO; Mrs. Dan (Mary) Reisen, St. Paul; 35 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife July 6, 1961, son, Raymond, brother and sister, James and Sister Luke, OSB and one grandchild. Pallbearers will be Duane and Donald Thomes, Robert Zierden, Joseph Funk, Tom Nierenhausen and Steven Zwack.
