A Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in St. Cloud for LeRoy "Buzz" Otte, age 79, of St. Cloud, who died on Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at his home. Rev. Gregory Lieser will officiate. Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls with full military honors provided by VFW Post #428. Friends may call between 4-9 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Peter's Church. St. Peter's parish prayers will be 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home in St. Cloud.
Buzz was born on October 15, 1924, in Melrose to Joseph and Anna (Hemmesch) Otte. He served in the US Army during WWII. He married Eileen K. Schulte on July 30, 1949, in Melrose. He was employed by the Great Northern Railroad and later the Burlington Northern Railroad for over 43 years. He was a member of St. Peter's Parish, Waite Park American Legion Post #428, Knights of Columbus Council #961 where he was a Past Grand Knight, and a life member of VFW Post #428. Buzz enjoyed fishing, swimming, reading, traveling, volunteering and was always full of life. He treasured his family and will be remembered as a loving husband and father. During Eileen's illness over the past ten years, he was a wonderful caregiver.
He is survived by his wife Eileen; children, Debbie (Mike) Foehrenbacher, Linda (Gary) Zumwalde, and Mike (Kathy), all of St. Cloud, and Charlie of Richmond; grandchildren, Sarah, Anne, Jenny, Kaylan and Jonathan; great grandson, Jack; and brother, Everett "Pete" Hemmesch of Sartell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Mary Catherine; sisters, Dolores and Renee; and brothers, Erwin and Ralph. Arrangements are with the Daniel Funeral Home, St. Cloud.
