Charles M. Schleper, age 75 of Paynesville, died Sunday, August 2, 2009 at the Paynesville Area Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Visitation will be 4- 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville, where there will be 7:30 parish prayer service. Visitation will continue on Wednesday for one hour prior to the services at the church. Entombment will be in the St. Louis Parish Mausoleum.

Charles “Charlie” Michael Schleper was born on Sept 19, 1933 in Paynesville, the son of Gerhard and Catherine (Jaeger) Schleper. He grew up on the family farm between Paynesville and Lake Henry and attended Paynesville High School graduating in 1950. After his schooling he worked for NSP until 1955 when he entered the Unites States Army, serving his country for 2 years. On Oct 8, 1960, Charlie was united in marriage to Eileen Ann Spanier in Lake Henry. They made their home in Mankato and various communities in the five state area while he worked for NSP. They returned to Paynesville in 1965 where they farmed until 1990. While in retirement he continued to work at Ampi and at his daughter’s daycare. Together, Charlie and Eileen were able to share in 42 years of marriage before Eileen’s death on May 12, 2003. Charlie was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church where he attended faithfully to the Saturday evening mass. He enjoyed going for drives and checking out the crops, attending sporting events, watching the twins, being a daycare grandpa and spending time with his grandchildren and family. Charlie died peacefully on Sunday morning, August 2, 2009 surrounded by his seven children and nephew Pat Olberding at the Paynesville Area Hospital at the age of 75.

He is survived by his children, Roxy Moser of Paynesville, Pat (Brenda) Schleper of Paynesville, Dean (Kerry) Schleper of Paynesville, Doug (Jill) Schleper of Paynesville, Peg (Greg) Stang of Rockville, Lee Schleper of Paynesville and Terri (Kirk) Athmann of Paynesville; fourteen grandchildren, Jen, Steph, Sam, Ben, Jordan, Brandon, Molly, Olivia, Emily, Kendra, Max, Charlie, John and Mitchell; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Luke; and two sisters, Adeline (Pete) Holper of Paynesville and Mary Hagen of Lino Lakes.

Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen; son-in-law, Joe Moser and his parents.
