Funeral Services will be 11 am Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Greenwald for Alberta M. Loxtercamp, 86, who died Sept. 28, 2003 at the Pine Villa Care Center, Melrose. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm and Wednesday from 8 to 10:30 am at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Mothers will pray at 7:30 pm followed by parish prayers at 8 pm.
Alberta M. Loxtercamp was born on Oct. 20, 1916 in Lake Henry, Minnesota to Gerhard and Catherine (Jaeger) Schleper. She married Cyril Backes on Nov. 19, 1940 at Paynesville, Minnesota. She has lived in Greenwald, Minnesota since her marriage. Cyril died on June 6, 1958. Alberta married Joseph Loxtercamp on May 19, 1960 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Greenwald. Alberta lived at the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose since May. She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Greenwald; Christian Mothers, Lake Henry Legion Auxiliary and the Melrose VFW Auxiliary. For most of her life Alberta enjoyed sewing and quilting.
Survivors include her 6 children, Nicholas Backes (Mary) of Eleanor, West Virginia, Margaret Thielman (Robert) of Avon, Gary Backes (Lila) of St. Cloud, David Backes of Greenwald, Dennis Backes of Dayton and Paul Loxtercamp (Julie) of Bemidji; sisters and brother, Adeline Holper (Peter) of Paynesville, Irene Hein (Elsworth) of Paynesville, Mary Hagan of Lino Lakes and Charles Schleper of Paynesville; 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Cyril Backes on June 6, 1958 and Joseph Loxtercamp on Aug. 20, 2000; brothers and sisters, Leon, Gerald and Ernest Schleper, Hermina Olberding and Annette Tolzmen. Memorials are preferred.
