Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Martin Catholic Church for Alvina Schaefer, 87, who died Thursday at Koronis Manor Home, Paynesville. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Martin Parish Center. St. Ann's Christian Woman, the Rosary Sodality, St. Mary's Mission Group and the St. Paul's Mission Group will pray a rosary at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, followed by parish prayers at 8 and Catholic Aid rosary at 9 at the parish center.
Alvina Schaefer was born in St. Martin to John and Elizabeth (Fishbach) Orbeck. She married Edward Schaefer on Sept. 8, 1936, in St. Martin Catholic Church. The couple farmed two miles south of St. Martin until 1966, when they moved into St. Martin. She was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church, St. Ann's Christian Woman, the Rosary Sodality, Catholic Aid, St. Mary's Mission Group and St. Paul's Mission Group.
Survivors include her husband; daughters and sons, Marilyn Kaschmitter of Sauk Rapids, Elnora Lieser, Irene Burg and Doreen Salzl-Heidgerken of St. Martin, Roman of Paynesville, Dolores Maile of Cold Spring, and Alice Niewind of Grand Rapids; sisters, Frances Rothstein of St. Martin, and Geneieve Rothstein of St. Cloud; 26 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by one grandson; two great-grandchildren; and brothers, John, Joseph and Clarence.
