Individual Details

Jason Carson Alexander

(15 Jul 1810 - 14 Sep 1879)

Jason was responsible for the migration from Alabama to Louisiana, and on to Texas three years later. He was living in Walker County, AL by 1838. Jason and his brother Asiel were on the Walker Co., AL 1840 census living beside their father-in-law, Johnson Hendon. He entered government land Walker County in 1848 where Carbon Hill now stands. He appeared on the 1850 Morgan County, AL census and purchased land there on 13 November 1857. He was one of seven "constituent members" of the Lebanon Baptist Church in 1852. This church is about five miles southwest of Hartselle, AL near Mack Creek. They were residents of Providence Community, near Spring Ridge, while they were in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, and attended the Providence Baptist Church. This church has a cemetery with at least thirteen Alexanders buried there. Several of his siblings and their extended families accompanied him to Panola County, Texas (arriving in 1860 according to the 1867 Voters Registration). He first purchased land in Panola County on February 18, 1859, while still listing his residence in Louisiana. He was on the 1860 Panola County census. It is not certain where Jason is buried. It is most likely the Shady Grove Cemetery, but could be the Bell Fountain Cemetery.
