Notes
Birth
**Birth Fact, Samuel Foulke, ID0147:**Claim:
- That Samuel Foulke was born on 4 Feb 1718 (OS Calendar).
**Conclusion (Date):
- Most of the data for the birth of Samuel are contained in authored works and they mostly agree that he was born on the 4th day of the 12th month 1718 which would be 4 Feb 1718 in the old style calendar. Some of the sources have mistakenly stated his birth date as 4 Dec 1718, interpreting the 12th month as the modern December and not Feb as it should be. I have used the 4 Feb 1718 as his correct birthdate.
**Evidence:
- Birth Date: 12 mo 4 day 1718 [4 Feb 1718] [1] [2, page 131]
- Birth Date: 12-4-1718 [4 Feb 1718, OS] [2, page 130] [6, pdf p 2]

"Samuel Foulke, a grandson of Edward through his son Hugh, served in the Pennsylvania Colonial Assembly from 1761 through 1768. Portions of a journal kept by Samuel reveal that he thought it no "remarkable" occurrence to receive mail from Benjamin Franklin, and even less so to meet with him on New Year's Eve of 1763." [1]Fragments of his journal kept during his time in the Assembly have been printed in Penna. Mag., Vol IV [2]
He represented the county in the Provincial Assembly from 1761 to 176 [3] [4, v. 3, p 90]

"At the outbreak of the Revolution he and his brothers, John, Thomas, and Theophilus, signed the Oath of Allegiance to the Colonies as prescribed by the Pennsylvania Assembly. This was deemed an offense against the principles of Friends by other members of the monthly meeting, and the four brothers were disowned from membership. However, he continued to sit at the head of the meeting and acted as clerk during the whole period, and did much to hold the patriotic Quakers back from active participation in war-like measures while giving their allegiance to the patriot cause in accordance with what he conceived to be conformity to the laws of he state."
