E. B. TOMLINSON SUCUMBS AFTER A LONG ILLNESS
Was a Well Known Farmer of Washington Township
FUNERAL TO BE HELD THURSDAY FORENOON
Services At the Hinkle Creek Friends Church
Elwood B. Tomlinson, one of the leading farmers of Washington township, died at his home at 7:30 o'clock Monday evening following an illness of several months, aged fifty-seven. The widow and one daughter, Mrs. Roy Woods, survive. The sisters and brother living are Mrs. J. T. Pierce, of Harrod, Ohio; Mrs. L. W. Irwin, of Sidney, Ohio, and O. E. Tomlinson of DeSoto City, Florida. Mrs. Horace Carey, Indianapolis, formerly a resident of Noblesville, was an adopted sister of Mr. Tomlinson.
The funeral will be held in the Friends church at Hinkle Creek at 11 o'clock Thursday forenoon. The services will be in charge of Rev. Ward Applegate and the interment will take place in the cemetery near the church.
The Tomlinson family of Hamilton county is one of the most prominent in this section of the state and can trace its history back to William Tomlinson, who was a native of Ireland.
The deceased, the son of Allan and Martha (Perisho) Tomlinson, was born May 30, 1864, in Washington township and spent his entire life in the township of his nativity. After finishing the common school course of his township he spent several terms in the high school at Westfield after which he devoted all of his time to labor upon the farm of his father. There were five children in the family of Allan Tomlinson and wife, four of their own and one adopted.
Mr. Tomlinson was married June 6, 1889, to Miss Elln Beals, daughter of Lemuel Beals, and to this union was born one daughter, Gladys, now Mrs. Roy Woods. The Republican party claimed the support of Mr. Tomlinson but owing to his extensive farming interests he never felt inclined to take an active interest in political affairs. He and his wife were actively identified with the Friends church and contributed liberally of their means to its support. Mr. Tomlinson attained to a definite degree success in a material way and in addition to his large farm in Washington township he was a stockholder in the First National Bank of this city. He was a man of generous impulses and genial disposition and was ever ready and willing to help those less fortunate than himself. He was charitable to the faults of his neighbors and deeply interested in the welfare of his community, lending his support to all worthy classes. Mr. Tomlinson was sick for six months. Last February he was taken to a hospital in Indianapolis where he underwent an operation. He was brought home in March and for a while seemed to improve but there came a change for the worse and since then his decline has been rapid. It has been known for many weeks that he could not recover.
