Militaryentering the army in the War of 1812 as first sergeant. He was clerk of an artillery company at one point and had charge of loading a cannon which he nicknamed "Fear Naught." He fought in the Battles of Plattsburg and Stone Mills; and was honorably discharged after eighteen months service.

Bio NoteJabez was active in town affairs in Calais, Vermont. He was elected Colonel of the Militia after his service in the War of 1812. He was lister or tax appraiser for the town in 1828; and Justice of the Peace in 1833, 1834, 1837 and 1848.
