All Americus was shocked by the untimely and tragic death of Prof. Charles M. Hale, age 53, principal of Americus High School and one of the city's most beloved citizens, which occurred at his home, 303 West Church Street, at 9:45 o'clock Sunday morning.

The Baraca Bible Class of the First Methodist Sunday school, of which Mr. Hale had been teacher for several years, was dismissed when the sad news reached the church and the morning worship services at the church was adjourned shortly after it convened out of respect to Mr. Hale, who was a devout member.

Mr. Hale had been an instructor in the Americus High School since the fall of 1912 and had been principal since 1916. During that long period of service he had endeared himself in the hearts of thousands of young people as well as the adults.

Mr. Hale was born in Spring Valley, Virginia, January 11, 1883. He was educated in Spring Valley Academy and was graduated from Emory and Henry College in 1903. After editing a weekly newspaper in Virginia a few years, he took a post-graduate course at Vanderbilt University, and later took work in the University of Chicago.

During his school teaching career, Mr. Hale held positions in Virginia, Florida and Georgia. He came to Americus in 1912 from Marshallville, Ga., as a teacher of Latin. He became principal four years later.

On May 12, 1914, Mr. Hale was married to Miss Laura Ansley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Ansley, of Americus, who survives. Four children were born to this union, one of which Lee Ansley ..... (remainder is missing).
