In 1930 he fractured his spine at Dunvilla, Otter Tail County, Minnesota a lake swimming accident by diving from a platform into shallow water. He later died from the injury in St. Lukes Hospital, Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota. At the time he was employed as a lard trucker at Armour Meat Packing Plant, West Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota.
