Individual Details
Ellora Eve Mae STEVENS
(8 Sep 1886 - 2 May 1962)
In 1898 Ellora's mother died. Her dad had divorced her mother just prior to her birth. The time surrounding her mother's death is confusing as to where Ellora was located. Family records have her mother dying in 1898 and that she was then raised by her aunt Fannie in Dazey, North Dakota. In the 1900 Census she is not living in Dazey, Barnes Co, ND with her aunt or grandparents nor can she be found in any 1900 Census. Her obituary indicates she was orphaned at age 15 (1901). If her mother died in 1898 then it is not known where she was between 1898 and 1901/02. Her biography states she was born in Crawford County, Wisconsin with no mention of a city and raised by her grandma Brown from the time of her mothers death which she says was when she was eleven years old.
The 1910 Census has her living in Dazey, Barnes County, North Dakota with her husband and one child and unemployed.
In 1912 the family moved to Valley City. While in Valley City she was baptized on 19 November into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days by J.E. Wildermuth.
In 1914 the family moved to Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota.
The 1920 Census has her living in Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota with her family.
The 1930 Census has her living in Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota with her family (1117 7th Ave. N.).
While in Fargo she worked for a photographer in sales, Western Union, and was in a partnership with her third son Loran (Willis) in the restaurant within the Comstock Hotel in Moorhead, Clay County, Minnesota.
She was raised a Methodist but was not baptized until later as she joined the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She taught the Book of Mormon and also did research for Apostle Charles Hield, of the RLDS Archealogical Department.
The following is her obituary from the Fargo Forum newspaper of 2 May 1962:
"Mrs. Roy H. (Ellora) Freeman, 75, of 630 1/2 1st Ave, N., Fargo, died this morning in a Fargo hospital.
The funeral will be at 12 Friday in Hanson-Runsvold Chapel.

She taught at Dazey until her marriage there Jan. 4, 1909. She and her husband resided at Dazey and Valley City until 1914 when they came here. Her husband died May 4, 1945.
She leaves two sons and two daughters, L. W. Freeman, 3005 8th St. No., Fargo; Harold B. of 1617 10th Ave., S., Fargo; Mrs. Arlie (Ina) Peterson, 1513 13 1/2 St., S., Fargo, and Lorene, Lamoni, Iowa.
There are 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A son preceded her in death. Mrs. Freeman was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints."
