Individual Details
Volney A. BROWN
(1 Aug 1857 - Dec 1883)

A short notation in his father's pension file indicates on 18 Jan 1864 he is to receive a pension of eight dollars a month. This is one day after his mother married Belus Abrams. Evidently some legal problem came up which is not evident in the file because on 20 Apr 1865, Clarissa Jones, the sister of Fanny F. In the 1870 Census he is living with four adults; aunts Clarissa, Lorenda, and Martha Jones and cousin Texanna Cobb in Boscobel, Grant County, Wisconsin. His mother is married to Belus Abrams at this time and is living in Sterling, Vernon County, Wisconsin.
In the 1880 Census he is living in Butler/Pomeroy, Calhoun County, Iowa with his brother Chester O. and working as an artist.
In December 1880 he married Maria Elizabeth PLATT. Sac County Iowa Marriage Records, Volume 3, page 166, V. A. Brown and Lizzie M. Platt (15y) were married at the Brides's residence in Sac City, Sac County, Iowa.
In a document entitled "Genealogical Events From Newspapers for Crawford, Vernon and Grant Counties, Wisconsin 1870-1901, published December 25, 1883, "Brown, Volney A., Died of Consumption Saturday in Boscobel. He was 25. Returned to Boscobel from Kansas City to die. He was gone for 3 years. He was the son of Mrs. Abrams of Boscobel."
