Will
New Hampshire. Probate Court (Hillsborough County); Probate Place: Hillsborough, New Hampshire, Probate Records, Vol 40-41, 1833-1835, pp 32-34In his will written 17 April 1827, John Holt bequeaths to beloved wife Dorcas use of one-half of the dwelling house while she remains a widow and all the household furniture not otherwise disposed of the be at her own disposal. There are also several specific provisions for the continued care and support of Dorcas. This includes provisions for medical care if needed, annual supplies of staple goods, and $200 in cash. Daughter Dorcas wife of Peter Pevey receives $50; daughter Sarah wife of Francis Dunkley, $50; daughter Tamesin, $250; daughter Phebe, $250; daughter Martha, $250; and daughter Elizabeth, $250. He also provides that the four unmarried daughters can remain in the mother's household if they choose to do so. He also wills that the four daughters if employed should pay some moderate amount to continue to live in the home and this is to be paid to their brother John. His only son John receives all the estate real and personal not otherwise disposed of. The wearing apparel is to be divided equally between John and his brothers-in-law. John is named sole executor.
