Individual Details
William Fredrick "Willie" Wittgow Jr.
(16 Apr 1872 - 4 Aug 1963)
Willie and his younger brother Christ were the last two boys at home. Their father kept them busy on the farm. Their schooling was limited to a week or a day at a time and then only in midwinter. They stayed on the farm and saved what money they could. They bought a threshing machine, powered by 18 horses and ran it in the neighborhood. Finally they had saved $500. Willie met Louise Werkmeister at a dance near Norfolk. Within a year he saw the need of the $500--half of which belonged to brother Christ. Their father did not see fit that they should share in anything built up from their work on the farm. So Willie and Louise lived with William, Caroline, and Christ for two years until their daughter and only child, Philamene Marie, was born on December 26, 1898. Then Willie dealt with Christ for the $500 and started farming with his little family on a farm not far from the old place.
