In 1885 he is living in Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota as a speculator.
In 1900 the census has him (John Hatt) and wife Jennie, living in Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota at 901 8th Avenue North and has his birth date as January 1857. Included is adopted daughter Pearl born in March 1888. Living at the same address is Mary Jane's daughter Ida and her husband and family.
In 1910 the census has him and wife Jenny, living in Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota at 901 8th Avenue North and is 50 years old (abt 1860).
In 1920 census he is living in Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota at 801 9th Street North with his wife Mary J. and employed as a farm laborer and also indicates he immigrated to USA in 1877 and became a Naturalized Citizen in 1882. In an article on his wife Mary Jane, it is recorded that John Henry had a farm but continued to reside in Fargo.
The 2005 North Dakota Death Index records the death of a John Flatt on 12 July 1923 with his birth date as 13 January 1856. This writer is not sure of the record origin of the 25 November 1858 birth date but is aware through census records a variety of dates, i.e., 1856, 1857, 1858, and 1860.
