Karin Maria Jensdtr.

(8 Jul 1821 - 16 Feb 1862)

BIRTH-MARRIAGE: Letter, June 1989, Brynhild Remmen, Mo i Rana, Norway;

1) Petrus Pedersen (about 1819-18.4.1905), b. Vilhelmina Sv., Farmer and tailor. In addition to this cottage he also used Korsdalsmoen BNR. 8, which he bought in 1853, and Shell Ådalen of Solbakken, which he bought the same year. Korsdalsmoen was sold to I. R. Johansen 1875. G.I. 1848 m. Karen Marie Jensd. (1824-16.2.-62), seat will be. Valla. Has easy for a while after Karen Maria Jensdatter. Have now found her: Karen Maria Jensdtr, born 8 Julia Alstahaug parish in 1821, baptized 5 August 1821 in Tjøtta church. Parents: Father: Jens Hansen, born 1796 from Vatne Alstahaug death in 1842 in Vatne. Mother: Karen Marie Christensdtr, born 1799, from Sørnes in Alstahaug. They were married 23 September 1821 in Alstahaug church. Karen Maria reported moving to Valla in Ranen September 16, 1839. There was change in 1842 at Vatne Alstahaug by both parents. They drowned when they went through unsafe ice. Here are a Christian family of 6 mentioned, the oldest, Karen Maria Jensdtr, was then 21 years old and stayed at Valla in Hemnes. Persson, Petrus (Per). Born 1819-09-29 in Nästansjö, Vilhelmina (AC) (Vilhelmina AIA: 3 1820-1930 s.401 B.5 / 5). 1819-10-03 baptized in Vilhelmina (AC) (Vilhelmina C: 1 1787-1825 b.2 / 2). Flyttade 1839 från Nästansjö, Vilhelmina (AC) fixed Norway (Vilhelmina AIA: 4 from 1830 to 1839 s.227 B.5 / 6). Birthday GID: 2023.11.61300 (Far I: 1, p. 1, Mother of 2, s 1) Persson, Petrus (Per). Born 1819-09-29 in Nästansjö, Vilhelmina (AC) (Vilhelmina AIA: 3 1820-1930 s.401 B.5 / 5). 1819-10-03 baptized in Vilhelmina (AC) (Vilhelmina C: 1 1787-1825 b.2 / 2). As we see came both Karen and Maria Petrus to Hemnes in 1839. Can you get the sentence changed: seat will be. Valla. It has caused much trouble for many. Yes, she stayed at Valla when she married, but she was from Sørnes in Alstahaug parish. His father was from Vasseng in Vatne and is currently in Leirfjord. Are unsure how Sørnes is today, it may be Tjøtta?. Regards Thorbjørn Meringdal, Oslo

19. Died 16 Feb 1862, buried 28 Feb 1962, Karen Marie Jensdtr, wife of the cottager, Solhaug, age 38.

KMS told that her grandmother, Karen Marie Jensdtr drown when the ice broke while she was crossing a river in the winter. Her death left Jensine, the oldest child, to care for her brothers and sisters until their father's remarriage.

Hi Nancy

The track that led me to the right Karen Marie appeared in the papers of the administration of Karen Marie’s father’s estate when he died in 1842. (Hope you understand my English?).

Karen Maria’s parents, Jens Hansen and his wife Karen Maria Christiansdatter, both died in 1842, in VATNE, Alstahaug Parish, and in this document Jens and Karen’s 6 children are mentioned as heirs. The originals of this documents are at the Statsarkiv in Trondheim, Norway, but they are all on roll films. Alstahaug Parish is situated nearby west and south of Hemnes Parish at the Helgeland coast, Nordland County. May be I could get a copy of this records from the Statsarkiv in Trondheim later. (Statsarkiv = keeper of the Rolls).

In this document, Karen Marie, is noted: “Karen Maria, daughter, 21 years old, not married, lives in Valla, Sør Rana”. My commentary: That’s Valla in Korgen - in the municiple of Hemnes.

Details:

Jens Hansen born 1796 in Vatne, married Karen Maria Christensdatter, born 1799 in Sørnes, Alstahaug on 23. of September 1821. At that time Karen Maria was pregnant with her first child, your great grand mother, Karen Maria, and the clergyman made a note in the church-book, publishing the banns for Jens and Karen Maria.

Jens and Karen Maria had at least 6 children: (alive in 1842)

1. Karen Maria born 8. July 1821
baptized in Tjøtta Church 5. August 1821
the baptism confirmed in Alstahaug Church in 1836
married to Petrus Pedersen 24. September 1848 in Hemnes Church
died 16. February 1862 in Solhaug, Hemnes
buried at Korgen Cemetery 28. February 1862
2. Pernille Chirstine born 5. January 1824 in Vasseng, Alstahaug
3. Johanna Chirstine born 22. April 1826 in Vasseng
4. Christiana born 4. February 1833 in Vasseng
5. Henrich Mathias born 31. May 1835 in Vasseng
6. Elen Birgitta born 4. August 1837 in Vasseng
The last 5 children were baptized in Alstahaug Church.

You will find Alstahaug Church on the map in Sandnessjøen. Tjøtta Church is not far from Alstahaug, further south.

Your Karen Maria Jensdatter apparently were a maid servant in the Valla farm in Korgen, Hemnes at the time she married Petrus Pedersen.

If you look in the Hemnes Church-book, written by the clergyman, when Petrus and Karen married in 1848, you will find Karen Maria’s fathers name as Jens Andersen, but in the same Hemnes Church-book written by the parish clerk, her father’s name is only written with a “J” which indicates that there were some confusion on his name.

I will try to support you with more detailed information on Jens Hansen’s ancestors later.

Before Petrus Pedersen married Karen Maria, he had a child with Jonella Olsdatter, living in Røsså, Korgen, Hemnes. This girl child was born on 6. June 1842 at Røsså, named Olava Adriana Petrusdatter when baptized on 10. June 1842 in Hemnes Church, baptism confirmed in Hemnes Church in 1858. Petrus and Jonella were not married, thus Olava was a so called “illegitimate child” - from the church’s point of view..

Hello Nancy,

Now I have heard from that man in Nordland. His name is Robert Monsen, and
he knew Terje Roghell, who you had contact with some years ago. Terje got
your e-mail; I hope it was all right. Robert Monsen didn’t find Karen Marie
as baptized in the Church-book, but he has sent me a long letter, and I will
translate what he has written to me in Norwegian. Not so easy in English,
but I will do my best. Here is what he has found:

Concerning Karen Marie Jensdatter.
Documental information is found.

Karen Marie Jensdatter, Mosbakkmoen, Solhaug, Hemnes parish.
Born about: 1823/-24, Valla
Married: 14 Sep1848 Hemnes Church
Dead: 16 Feb 1862, Solhaug.
Buried: 28 Jul 1862, Hemnes Churchyard
Division of inheritance: 1863, Solhaug, Hemnes parish.

Robert’s comments:

1.Karen Marie Jensdatter (Hemnes Gård og Slekt, II.665.1) is not found
registered as baptized in the relevant Church books for Hemnes parish and
not for Mo parish, which is the nearest neighbour church for relevant years.
2.The birth year about 1823 can be seen from a documental marriage, when she
is 25 years old. Ref. Church book no. 11, (1842-1860) s.393-394, No
11(person).
3.The birth year about 1824 can be seen from the document for death and
buried, she is 38 year then. Ref.: Church book no 11(1842-1863) s.524,
person no 19.
4.Division of inheritance 1863 Ref.:(Book of division of inheritance for
North Helgeland 1859-1872, and micro film (written from original
microfilm-in book format of Svein Edvardsen s.59- Hemnes).
5. The mothers name is not documented!
6.The father’s name: Jens Andersen. Ref.: At marriage the name is J.
Andersen. Ref.: Church book 11, (1842-1860) s.393-394. Person no 11,
and Karen is registered with the name ”Jensdatter” Ref.: like above, and so
is the name” Jens Andersen”.
7. When “it is said” that the father was Jens Johann (baptized Johanes)
Andersen, born in Nedre Leren in 1802(b.9 Jan and baptized 14 Feb 1802),
(Hemnes Gård og Slekt II.915.5), and with the mother Kirsten Anna
Andersdatter, b.1806, Solbakken (Hemnes Gård og Slekt II, s.650, 7). Both
are living in Korgen, (Hemnes G.og S.685.11), so then this may be possible.
In case the mother must have had a stay in Valla in 1848. But, we have till
now no documentation on that. Assumptions must not find expression among
ancestors.
8.In genealogical searching exist many analogue case where birth is named to
a place where the mother probably stayed when the birth happened. Often in
the church book they registered the place where the mother stayed at the
current time. So, it was not sure that the mother was born on that place!

I hope you understand this. Robert Monsen`s e-mail address is:
