BIRTH: Letter, 14Jul1994, The Norwegian Emigration Center, Stavanger, Norway.
Kristina Jacobsen to sister Jensine, writing from Selnes, the 3rd of July (likely in 1892 since Jensine and children left in June 1891)
My dear far away sister,
It took a while to get a letter from me, but you are never far away from my thoughts and that I won't see you anymore is a hard thing to know about. I have been sad all summer that I couldn't get to Mo to see you and it will take a while to forget that. If we can only live that we can meet again in heaven. Yes now you are having your first Christmas in America. Dear Sister tell me what you are doing and how you are, I am worried that you won't like it there. Tell me what you are doing in your daily life.
I think Karen must be a big joy for you now. Ragna talk about her often. She thanks her for the picture she got from her. They are going now to write to each other. And Anders said Axel you now have a namesake. Nette wants to go to America. She will write to you.
You have to send me a picture of the family and we will send you one this summer if we are all alive. I have to thank you for the gift you sent me. It was very nice.
I can greet you from home. Hans was there and they all lived well. Olava and Ludvig didn't want to give up the looms. They are now doing some weaving.
I better end for this time. Love from us all. It is now 1 a.m. and I will go to bed.
My little boy's name is Haldor Christian, named after ourselves.
Yes, good night dear sister, and don't forget us. I wish you luck and happiness and that Nils will always be good to you.
Dear, write to me again. I am waiting to hear from you and it won't take so long to write next time and Nette will write to you this winter when we have more time. Greet your husband and your children, Hans and everybody, from us all.
Your sister,
Kristina Jakobsen, Selnes
Write to me soon again and I will write to you. The time is long for me now. Live well my sister.
