Following an illness of eight weeks, Miss Margaret Schwalen passed away on Tuesday, March 20, at the A. L. Kinney home (a niece). Funeral services were from St. Patrick's Church. Burial in the family lot at the German Settlement Cemetery. Born Nov. 3, 1852 at the German Settlement. Survived by two sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Nick Thome of the German Settlement, Mrs. M. N. O'Brien and H. N. Schwalen of Hudson, and H. D. Schwalen of Roberts.

Mrs. Nick Thome, 85, Dies; Funeral Held on Saturday
Mrs. Anna Mary Thome, 85 years old and widow of the later Nickolas Thome, died last Wednesday evening, June 28, at her farm home after a lingering illness.
Anna Mary Schwalen was born on a farm in the Town of Hudson on October 12, 1858. She attended the district school and then assisted her parents on the farm. She was married to Nickolas Thome on January 27, 1885. They resided on her parents' farm for a year and then moved to Hudson. After being in Hudson for a year they purchased the present Thome farm on County Trunk N where both of them resided until death. Mr. Thome died in 1942. One daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Kinney died in 1939 and another daughter died in infancy.
She is survived by one daughter, Gertrude, Town of Hudson; and two sons, Raymond of the Town of Hudson, and Fred of Spring Valley, Wis.; a brother, Hubbard Schwalen, Roberts, and a sister, Mrs. M. N. O'Brien, Hudson.
The body lay in state at the O'Connell Funeral home until 9 o'clock Saturday morning when services were held at St. Patrick's Catholic church, Monsignor J. M. Owens officiating. Interment was in the German Settlement cemetery. The pallbearers were Robert Friend of Hudson, Henry Schwalen, Charles Frey and Lawrence Brown of Roberts, Hubbard LeJune and Nicholas Thome of Rice Lake.
