Mrs. Lawrence Kinney, 45, Dies of Auto Crash Injuries; Girl Critical
Mrs. A. Lawrence Kinney of the town of Hudson, was fatally injured, her twelve year old daughter, Mary, was critically injured, and three other members of the Lawrence Kinney family were badly cut and bruised in a tragic auto collison that took place at the John Larson corner, three miles east of Hudson, at 9:45 o'clock last Sunday morning. Mrs. Kiney died a half hour later while she and her daughter were being taken in an ambulance to St. Joseph's hospital, St. Paul.
The tragic auto fatality and injuries resulted when the Kinney car, in which members of the Kinney household were driving west to Hudson to attend morning worship, was struck broadside by another car drive by LaVere C. Kahler, 31, of Clam Falls, Wis. The Kahler car, which was going south had just left Highway 12 at the turn and was proceeding toward Quality Park Farm No. 1 when it crashed into the right side ofthe Kinney car which was almost through the intersection. The force of the impact caved in the right side of the Kinney car and pushed it some seventy feet to the intersection corner where it was tipped over on its left side.
Mrs. Kinney and her daughter were riding in the front seat with Mr. Kinney, the daughter between the parents. Ignatius Kinney, 13, and Andrew Kinney, 9, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Kinney, and George Lukasavich, a farm helper, were in the back seat. The three in the front seat received the brunt of the impact. . .
Mrs. Kinney, who was 45 years old, was born on a farm in the German Settlement, east of Hudson, on March 18, 1894, the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Nick Thome, well known residents of this community. After completing her grade school work, she attended Hudson High School and the River Falls Normal. She was married to A. Lawrenc (Lorrie) Kinney, at St. Patrick's church here on May 2, 1925. After her marriage she and her husband lived in the Town of Troy for two years and since that time the family has lived on the Kinney farm in the Town of Hudson. A fine type of womanhood, her sole interest was in her home and family. Her death is mourned not only by her family and relatives but by her numerous friends.
Besides her husband and three children, she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Thome; two brothers, Fred of Hudson and Raymond of Spring Valley, and one sister, Gertrude, at home.
Funeral services were held at St. Patrick's church here at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning with Rev. Father Ignatius Kinney of Tomahawk, Wis., a brother of A. L. Kinney, and Monsignor Owen officiating. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery here.
