Edward A. Riedel, 78, a resident of Hudson for 63 years, died at Hudson Memorial Hospital Sunday, December 16, after an illness of ten weeks. He suffered a stroke in October and has been hospitalized since.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran church with the Rev. Martin H. Dicke officiating.
Burial was in Willow River Cemetery. Pallbearers were Henry Olson, Henry Moldenhauer, Frank Guiswite, Olof Johnson and Martin Ohrt, all of Hudson, and Fred Ferlein of St. Paul.
Edward Andrew Riedel was born near Nurenburg, Germany, August 16, 1878, the son of Baltasar and Sophie Riedel.
He received his early education in his native Germany and came to American in his teens, settling in Hudson.
Upon his arrival he worked for his uncle George Riedel, manager of the City Brewery, which was located on Coulee Road in those days. He later worked in the saw mils and in the woods for the lumber concern. For a time he operated an ice business in Hudson.
In 1905 he took employment at the car repair shops in North Hudson, working until his retirement in 1945.
He was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran church.
Surviving are his widow; three sons, Roland of St. Paul, Leonard of Hudson and Arthur of Sacramento, California; one daughter, Helen (Mrs. T. C. Bolton) of Medford, Oregon; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Friend of Hudson and Mrs. Johanna Schmeler of Germany.
Arthur Riedel flew here from California on Monday morning and will remain here until Friday, December 28.
