Pearle Grace Shoemaker, the daughter of Garret and Susie Ells Shoemaker, was born in St. Paul on December 15, 1881. Originally from New York, her parents moved to Portage, Wis., in the early days. From they went to St. Paul and later the family moved to Hudson.
Mrs. Hoyer was librarian of the Hudson public library for more than six years, having been appointed on January 15, 1908 and serving until August, 1914. On September 30, 1914, she was married to Alfred S. Hoyer of this city.
Athough her chief interests were centered in her home, Mrs. Hoyer found time to take an active part in church, club and fraternal organizations. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal church. She was past worthy matron of Eastern Star and also served as secretary of the Hudson Women's Club. She was taken seriously ill four and a half years ago and throughout her long illness she was always cheerful and never gave up hope. She bore her suffering with great fortitude, always looking forward to the future and never complaining.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Donald J. Engstrom, of Chicago; one son, John Hoyer; a niece, Miss Virginia P. Lyon, of New York City; a brother, Ira Shoemaker of Gig Harbor, Washington.
