MARRIAGE: Welborn; Obituary of Ben Welborn; Jordan Tribune; 31Aug1950.
Both Ethel and her older sister, Marie, were born while thier parents were
living in Custer county. After their marriage in 1899 they had moved to a place
near where Mizpah Creek enters the Powder River [about 35 miles ESE of Miles
City]. They lived there about five years before moving to a place about five
miles up Mizpah Creek, moving again in the winter of 1909 or 1910 to Trail
Creek. They moved in the winter in a sled, as the snow was deep and crossed the
river on ice. In 1910, Elizabeth Doonan moved to town with Marie and Ethel, to
send them to school. Helen was born November 1, 1910. Elizabeth never lived on
the ranch again. She and Hod were divorced in 1910.
The girls all finished high school in Miles City and both Marie and Ethel took
extra summer college studies and taught school.
