Marie was born in Mrs. Remington's Maternity Hospital in Miles City. She lived
her first eight years on the Poweder River near the mouth of Mizpah Creek.

Marie and her sister, Ethel, both trained for teaching and after high school
graduation took up teaching in rural elementary schools, attending summer
college classes.

Marie's first school was near Cohagen where she met Emil Olander while teaching
the Moon Creek School. They were married March 19, 1924.

Emil and Marie raised two daughters, Janet and Kathleen.

In 1960, Marie decided to return to teaching. She taught at Six Mile, Knowlton
and Moon Creek, as well as a few others. She was also active in community
clubs.
