North Branch Post Review (no date)
Gilbert William Swanson, the son of Charles and Ruth (Lind) Swanson was born December 6, 1914, in Fish Lake Township, Chisago County, Minnesota. His sister, Bernice, was born in 1917, and his brother, Charles, was born in 1929.
When Gilbert was seven years old, he moved with his family to Rush Point, Minnesota. He attended rural School District No. 24 and was a 1933 graduate of Rush City High School, Rush City, Minnesota. Upon completion of his studies he received two scholarships, but was unable to make use of them due to The Depression.
Gilbert lived most of his life in Rush Point. He conducted his business as an electrician from his parent's home, continuing to care for them as they grew older.
He was gifted in many ways, but especially in music and art.
Holidays were always special to him because he could spend time with Charles and Bobbie and their children.
In later years when his sister, Bernice, moved closer to his home, Gilbert greatly valued the time he shared with her and her family also.
Failing health caused Gilbert to become a resident of the Birchwood Health Care Center in Forest Lake, Minnesota, in September of 2000. He died there November 25, 2001, having reached the age of 86 years and 11 months. He leaves to mourn his passing his sister, Bernice Melin of Harris, Minnesota; nephews, Wayne Melin and Gerald Melin and their extended families; nieces, Jerri Pederson, Janice Bearson, Joanie Johnson, Jill White and their extended families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ruth Swanson, and his brother Charles.
