Major C. P. Erickson is Now in Colorado
Major Clarence P. Erickson, who recently returned from overseas service in the South Pacific, has arrived at General Hospital at Camp Carson, Colorado, for further care.
Major Erickson joined the army in January 1941 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota and was Chief Signal Officer in the 442nd Signal Heavy Construction Battalion, seeing action during the battles of Hollandia, Leyte and Luzon. His wife, the former Jeannette Stayberg, lives at 1129 7th St., Hudson.

Col. C. P. Erickson, county Civil Defense Co-Ordinator, has been appointed Civil Defense Director of the N.W. Wisconsin Disaster Region, comprising 12 counties of N.W. Wisconsin.

Lays Wreath On Unknown Soldier Tomb
Col. C. P. Erickson, grand mastr of the Wisconsin Order of Odd Fellows left by plane Saturday for Washington, D.C. Erickson laid a wreath for the state IOOF on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Grandmaster Erickson participated in the placing of the wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown for the State of Wsconsin at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Forty-six members, including the heads of all branches of the Order of Wisconsin, were present, with Wisconsin chosen as the honor guard for this 150th anniversary year. An annual pilgrimage is authorized by the U.S. government to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of the World, the only fraternal order so honored.
A conducted tour of Mount Vernon and Washington was made on Saturday afternoon. The annual pilgrimage banquet, in the grand ballroom of Hotel Washington, was concluded with a musical program and dance Saturday night. Col. Erickson attended an officers conference in the Grand Lodge office at Mauston on Monday and returned home Monday night.

Col. Clarence P. Erickson
Col. Clarence P. Erickson (ret.), 78, of 1129 Seventh st., a long-time civic and fraternal leader, died Wednesday night, Nov. 12, at Mounds Park Hospital in St. Paul of complications after major abdominal surgery. He had been hospitalized only three days.
Services were at the First Presbyterian church at 2pm, Saturday, Nov. 15, with the Rev. Elmer L. Bates officiating. Paul Willink of Baldwin, a son-in-law, was organist. Two granddaughters, Paul Willink and Debbie Willink of Baldwin, were vocalists.
Interment was in Willow River Cemetery. Full military rites were conducted at the grave by members of the Hudson VFW post No. 2115 including Fred Kurtz, Jim Larson, Lloyd Mattson, Hjalmer Johnson, Richard Benoy, Elmer Dahm, Willis A. Cramer and David Sobotika.
The IOOF lodge conducted a graveside memorial service at the cemetery.
Clarence Palmer Erickson was born Feb. 12, 1902 in Martell, Pierce county, the son of Eric Johan and Inge (Hanson) Erickson.
Soon after graduating from Elmwood High School, he entered the US Army reserves and served with the military at posts in the South.
On June 17, 1926 [19 Jan 1927] he was married in Hudson to Jeannette Stayberg, daughter of John A. and Karine M. (Jenson) Stayberg.
He entered active Army duty Oct. 1, 1941 and was later graduated with honors from the signal school at Fort Monmouth, NJ.
During World War II he served in New Guinea, Luzon and with the staff of Allied operations. He took part in a number of the campaigns and battles of the Phillipines, where on two occasions he was wounded in action.
After his retirement from the military in 1946, he and Mrs. Erickson returned to Hudson to make their home.
He was the first police dispatcher for the St. Croix county sheriff's office, a post he held from 1950 until his retirement in 1967.
He also was the county's first civil defense director in the 1950's and later he was area civil defense coordinator.
In the mid-1950's he served as third ward alderman for the city of Hudson.
During his residency here he was active in a number of fraternal organizations. He was past state grand master of the IOOF of Wisconsin, past grand master of Hudson's IOOF, a past worthy patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of St. Croix chapter No. 56 of the Masonic Order.
He also held membership in the Shrine club, VFW Post 2115 and the First Presbyterian church. He was a commissioner on the Hudson Housing authority that governs the operation of Croix View.
Surviving are his wife, Jeannette; two daughters, Mrs. Carlton A. (Jeannette) Bonner of Concord, Calif., and Mrs. Paul (Thelma) Willink of R1, Baldwin; a brother, Edward of Durand; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a son, Clarence John, a member of the Hudson police force, who was killed in a gun battle with a fleeing bandit in June 1953, and a brother, Raymond, in 1954.
Visitation was at the Swanson-Murphy-Kramer Funeral home, Friday, Nov. 14, where the Masonic order had its service at 7:30pm.
