Erick J. Erickson, 84, Father of Hudson Man, Dies; Funeral Sunday
Erick John Erickson, late of Elmwood, Wis., and father of Col. Clarence P. Erickson of Hudson, died on Thursday, march 10, at St. Benedict's hospital, Durand. He was 84 years old.
Mr. Erickson was born on May 9, 1864 at Vermland, Karlskoga, Sweden and emigrated to America in April 1886, coming directly to the farm of his uncle, Andrew Palmer, near Star Prairie. He was married to Inga Hanson at Ellsworth on Jan. 29, 1898. They lived in Spring Valley for some years but for the past 25 years they made their home at Elmwood. Mr. Erickson, who frequently visited in Hudson, was a kindly, pleasant man and a hard worker all of his life. He had been ill for the past two years.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Clarence P. of Hudson, Raymond of Norfolk, Va., and Edward of Durand; nine grandchildren, Clarence J. and Thelma of Hudson, Mrs. C.A. Bonner of San Diego, Calif.; John R., Raymond and Sonja Erickson of Norfolk, Va., Marjory, Peal and Joyce of Durand; and a cousin, Mrs. Emma Samson of Hudson. One son, Edwin, died in infancy.
Funeral services wer held at the Trieb-Poulton Chapel on Sunday, March 12, at 2 p.m., Rev. B. Meboe of Elmwood officiating. Mrs. M.F. Poulton, accompanied by Mrs. G.R. Carver, sang "Rock of Ages" and "What a Friend." Interment was in Willow River Cemetery. The pallbearers were Melvin Engebretson, Carl Sandeen, John Stayberg, Herbert Stayberg, Henry Weyers and Myron Anderson.
Out of town friends at the services were Dewey Lamson, Mrs. Mary Howard, Mr. and Mrs. Frances Turner and daughter, Mrs. Nels Berg; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schultz and Mrs. Wolskie of Olivet, Glen Clark of Eau Claire, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Erickson and three daughters and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kees of Durand.
