Inga Hansen

(14 Dec 1873 - 22 Feb 1958)

Note: (July 1984) According to Thelma Willink, while preparing for the auction at Jeannette's, they found pictures of Inge labeled "Inge Knudtson" (not Hanson) as they always thought. Inge had come to America with Emma Engrebretson's family, apparently as a very young girl. Her father had remained in Norway and had remarried there. Apparently she more or less was asked to leave.

While preparing for the auction at Jeannette's in 1984, Thelma Willlink said they found pictires labeled "Inge Knudston:. They were surprised at this because they thought Inga's name was Inga Hanson.

Thirty years later I believe I've found the answer. The pictures Thelma found were of Inga's grandmother, Inger Knudson, born 1830.

Inga (born 1873) was the daughter of Mathea Pedersdatter and Edward Hanson. Inga (born 1873) emigrated to Racine at age 8 in April 1882 with her aunt and uncle, Jacob Martins. (later known as Jacob M. Engebretson) and Karen Martins. (Karen Pedersdatter) and her grandparents, Peder Knuds., age 55, and Inger Knuds., age 52. All were from Sor Odalen in Hedmark. (see: Emigrants over Kristiania, 1871-1930). They joined another of Peder and Inger's children in Racine. John Kjestels. (later John Howe) and Ingri Kjestels. (Ingrid Pedersdatter) had emigrated a year earlier, in April 1881.

John and Ingri traveled on the Rollo. Inga, Jacob and Karen, and Peder and Inger traveled on the ship Christiania.

Jacob Engrebretson had relocated to Pierce county by 1883 where he had a farm in Section 32. He moved into Martell about 1900 and took over the harness shop. The family later moved to Hudson. Jacob and wife, Karen/Carrie/Kari, had eleven children, including Emma Engrebretson.
