Death
Mrs. Mabel Lillian Furr, 89, of 8441 Woodville Road, Mount Airy, died Wednesday, July 30, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Elwood Harold Furr Sr., who died in 1987. Born Oct. 25, 1913, in Culpeper, Va., she was a daughter of the late William and Frances Monroe Frank. Mrs. Furr enjoyed sewing and was an active flower and vegetable gardener. She had been a resident of Glade Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Walkersville, for 21 years. She is survived by one daughter, Rachel Elizabeth Harne of Mount Airy; five sons, Elwood H. Furr Jr. and wife Doris of Mount Airy, Paul C. Furr and wife Pat of Cape Coral, Fla., Phillip W. Furr and wife Susan of Keymar, Walter W. Furr and wife Janie of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Gary V. Furr and wife Sharon of Mount Airy; four sisters, Maggie Webb of Thurmont, Wilma Embrey of Gaithersburg, Greta Poole of Florida, and June Hall of Gaithersburg; one brother, Walter W. Frank of Augusta, Ga.; one daughter-in-law, Dot Furr of Eason Hill, Ga.; 16 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Robert E. Furr; one son-in-law, George Harne; and two brothers, John and Clifford Frank. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Road, Libertytown. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at the funeral home with the Rev. Carol C. Yocum, pastor of Calvary United Methodist Church, Mount Airy, officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
