Death
Mr. Phillip O. "Toad" Furr, 70, of Hedgesville, WV and formerly of Keymar, MD, passed away on Friday, April 11th at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV. He was the husband of Virginia "Susan" Furr, his wife of nearly 45 years. Born February 3, 1944 in Redland, MD, he was the son of the late Elwood and Mabel Furr. A graduate of Damascus High School, Phillip enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1964 and served as a tracked-vehicle mechanic in Germany. By the time he left the service in 1967, he had attained the rank of (T)Sgt. He worked in the construction and renovation field as a drywall finisher and plasterer for many years. He enjoyed his barnyard animals, and his family and friends. In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Furr is survived by his daughter, Heidi N. Furr; siblings, Elwood "Buddy" Furr, Jr. & wife Doris of Monrovia, Rachel "Betty" Harne of Mt. Airy, Paul C. Furr & wife Patsy of Coral Gables, FL, Walter W. "Jake" Furr of Falling Waters, WV, Gary V. Furr of Mt. Airy, a sister-in-law, Dorothy Furr of Georgia, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Furr. A memorial gathering will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 15th at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N in Frederick; the Rev. Margaret Moon will officiate. Honorary Pallbearers are: Elwood "Buddy" Furr, Robert "Muff" Hitchcock, Patrick "Pat" Murphy, Robert "Bob" Murphy, Clifford "Kippy" Hevner, and Jacob "Jay" Johnson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fisher House Foundation, Inc. to provide housing for the families of service members being treated at VA, Army, and Navy medical facilities (111 Rockville Pike, Suite 420, Rockville, MD 20850-5168) or to , 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.Endnotes
