Death
HENRYETTA (Special) — Ben Clinton Furr, 78, one of Okmulgee County's first settlers, retired cattleman and former County Commissioner, died Wednesday night in an Oklahoma City Hospital. Mr. Furr was prominent in county politics, serving as County Commissioner of District 3, for many years. He held several other county offices before turning to cattle raising. He was a member of the First Christian Church and Masonic Lodge. He had contributed greatly to the building of Henryetta, coming here from VanZant County, Texas, in 1890. He and Mrs. Furr would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary next month. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Stella Mae Furr of the home at 909 West Ragan; two daughters, Mrs. George English of Okmulgee and Mrs. Dawes Hardin of Ada; five sons, Bill Furr, Okmulgee; Manuel Furr, Denver, Colo.; Jack Furr, Muskogee; B. C. Furr, Bartlesville; and Albert Furr, of Edmond; two sister, Mrs. George Oliver and Mrs. Bob Madden both of Henryetta; two brothers, Arthur Furr, Henryetta and Sam Furr, Lubbock, Texas; also 15 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in First Christian Church with Rev. B. L. Williams officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn cemetery under the direction of the Wood Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons, Bobby Jack Furr, Dickey Furr, Robert Hardin, Jimmy Hockmaster, Jerry Thetford. Honorary bearers will include Claud Bryant, Mike Wagoner, Bill Pinkston, Gene Chancey, Oscar Hobbs, Homer Chancey, Henry Farrar, Joe Burnett, Claud Laughlin, and Earl Hunter.Okmulgee Daily Times, Okmulgee, Oklahoma, September 29, 1961
