Death
Ben C. Furr Jr., age 75, retired longtime employee of the Phillips Petroleum Company, died Wednesday, February 26, 1997 at his home in Bartlesville. Mr. Furr was born March 7, 1921 at Bryant, Oklahoma to the late Ben C. Furr Sr. and Stella May (Miller) Furr. He received his education in the Bryant School system and graduated from high school there in 1939. He continued his education and was a student at the Okmulgee Junior College and East Central State College. He received his honorable discharge from the United States Air Force and served during World War II. On August 16, 1947 he married Rowena Hutchinson at Okmulgee and they made their first home at Prague where Mr. Furr taught and served as basketball coach at Prague High School. They returned to Okmulgee where he joined the Phillips Petroleum Company and in 1948 they moved to Bartlesville. Mrs. Furr preceded him in death on October 12, 1978 in Bartlesville. He and the former Donna C. Bohannan were married March 14, 1979 in Bartlesville. He retired from the Phillips Company after 35 years of service. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Donna C. Furr of the home; son, Randal Alan “Randy” Furr of Oklahoma City; daughter, Diane Dee Furr of Bartlesville; and one sister, Mrs. Juanita Inglish of Okmulgee. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday, February 28 at Okmulgee Cemetery. Rev. Daniel K. Chinn of Grace Baptist Church will officiate.
