Death
James Neal (Jim) Furr, 82, of Lynchburg passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Valley View Retirement Community. He was the husband of Barbara Wilkerson Furr for 53 years. Jim was born in Big Island, VA, September 12, 1933. He was the son of the late Boyd A. Furr and Beulah G. Furr. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Furr of Staunton, VA. Jim worked in banking his entire career in both Staunton, VA and Lynchburg. In 1992, he retired from his position as Senior Vice President of Cooperative Savings Bank. He was an avid golfer and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a founding member of Memorial Baptist Church in Staunton and a member of Rivermont Ave. Baptist Church in Lynchburg. Jim served his country from 1952 to 1962 in the United States Army. He was a great storyteller and loved to make people laugh. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Lisa Furr Coleman and her husband, Al of Lynchburg; a son James Neal (Jay) Furr, Jr. also of Lynchburg; a grandson, William Neal Coleman and his wife, Lauren of Loomis, CA; a grandson, Stuart Sandidge Coleman of Indianapolis, IN; a brother Robert Wyatt Furr and his wife, Brenda; a special cousin, Barbara P. Cassell of Goode as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of his life will be held at Diuguid Funeral Home & Crematory, 811 Wiggington, Rd. (434) 385-8900 on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 11 from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM at the funeral home and during the hour preceding the service. The family would like to thank Dr. Cecelia MacCallum, Dr. John Carmack, Dr. Carl Moore and Centra Hospice for their kind and considerate care. The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider Centra Hospice and the American Cancer Society.Endnotes
