Death
Barbara Wilkerson Furr, 86, of Lynchburg, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2017, at her daughter's residence. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, James "Jim" Furr. Barbara was born January 22, 1931, in Amherst County, Va. She was the daughter of the late Edward Clark Wilkerson and Bertha Wood Wilkerson. Barbara worked in banking her entire professional career. After leaving the bank in 1973, she became an avid golfer as well as participating in her neighborhood garden club and singing in church choir. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a founding member of Memorial Baptist Church in Staunton, Va. and a member of Rivermont Ave. Baptist Church in Lynchburg. She loved to sing, read, watch tv, and work crossword puzzles in her later years and she brought joy to everyone around her. She is survived by a daughter, Lisa Furr Coleman and her husband, Al of Lynchburg; a son, James Neal (Jay) Furr, Jr. also of Lynchburg; a grandson, William Neal Coleman and his wife, Lauren, of Loomis, Calif.; a grandson, Stuart Sandidge Coleman of Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Marlene Nash of Jackson, Ga.; a niece, Kimbra Nash Stenson and her husband, Brent, and son, Harrison, all of McDonough, Ga.; a special brother-in-law, Robert Wyatt Furr and his wife, Brenda and their children and grandchild; very special cousins, Shirley Pendleton, Robert Ewers, and Barbara Cassell, as well as numerous other family members. She was well loved and loved well in return. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 11, 2017, in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, 427 Graves Mill Road. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home and during the hour preceding the service and at their home at 1615 Morrison Dr. all other times. The family would like to thank Dr. Cecelia MacCallum, Centra Hospice, Chrys Blue (our VERY special hospice nurse), and Barbara's exceptional caregiver, Jasmine Wynn for their kind and considerate care, friendship and love.
