FURR, James R. on Saturday, July 29, 1989 at 11:09 P.M. in Oakland, California. Beloved husband of Marilee Furr of Oakland; loving father of James W. Furr of Houston, Texas, and William E. Furr of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; dear son of Gladys Furr of South Bend, Indiana; dear brother of Mrs. Eleanor Rectenwal of South Bend, IN; dear grandfather of seven grandchildren: Shayna, Jami, Mitchell, Justin, Emily, Sarah, and Matthew. James R. Furr was born in Veederburg, Indiana, on November 6, 1921 to Omer and Gladys (Boggs) Furr. He graduated from LaPorte High School in June, 1940. Served as First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War Il, then graduated from Indiana University School of Business in June, 1948. Mr. Furr worked for Parke Davis in Detroit, Michigan until 1952, when he moved to California. He was employed by Kaiser Company, Oakland, California, for 24 years, which included 3 years, as Business Manager at Kaiser Broadcasting (WKBD Ch 50) in Detroit. After retiring from Kaser, he served as controller for the Oakland Symphony and treasurer for the Heritage of Claremont Condominium Association. Friends are invited to call at the Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland on Friday, August 4, 1989 from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. for visitation, and to attend Funeral Services at 2:00 PM following visitation.
