Louis Carlton "Arkansas" Brantley

A retired welder from Exxon and former resident of Port Allen for 39 years, he died Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, at 8:50 a.m. at Northridge Retirement Home, Baker. He was 88, a resident of Baker and native of Arkansas. Private services were held at Roselawn Memorial Gardens on Tuesday. Survived by his three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Allen Landry, Walker, Paula and John P. Ducote Sr., Baton Rouge, and Kathy and James L. Talbot Sr., Brusly; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald G. and Diane Brantley, Zachary, and Louis Carlton Jr. and Toni Brantley, Port Allen; two sisters, Lois Lane, San Antonio, and Molly Thomas, Cove, Ark.; and nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Hazel Truxillo Brantley, of Port Allen; parents, Thomas F. Sr. and Anna H. Brantley; sisters, Thelma Lee Griffin, Willie Edna Butler, Mary Lee Ruffino and Margurite Bandy; and brothers, Walter "Bon" Brantley, Ralph Brantley, Edmond Brantley and Thomas Brantley Jr. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Joe Ducote, Michael Talbot, Chris Landry, John P. Ducote, Jack Talbot and Jason Brantley. He was a former longtime member and usher at Holy Family Catholic Church and a member at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Denham Springs. Military Service: Joined the United States Army in 1940. He trained at Fort Benning, Georgia and served as a truck driver in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He served in England, North Africa and Italy. He recieved a medical discharge when he was injured in a vehicle accident in Italy.
