Note10 Sep 1888Thomas was taken into care as a State ward with brothers Anthony & David on the 10 Sep 1888 for being “neglected”. Their admission records note that their mother was dead & father Simon was in Melbourne Hospital. He was initially fostered out to a Mary James in Castlemaine & subsequently to a Mrs Miller in the same town. On 1 Jul 1893 he was “licensed” (bonded labour) to a Mrs A Barber in Guildford
Note15 Apr 1906Mount Morgans Mercury 18 Apr 1906 carried a story which stated "Thomas Strahan, an employee at Tattersall's Hotel, met with a severe accident Sunday morning last. While endeavoring to open a bottle of soda water the bottle exploded, inflicting a frightful gash in the left wrist which necessitated his immediate removal to the hosptial. He is, we are glad to state, progressing favorably."
