From Bertha Pappas Pouletsos, letter to Carol Kostakos Petranek, November 28, 1988:
"My mother's stepbrother, John Eftaxas, was married and had a daughter. His wife died when he was about 75 years old. After a few years he remarried his maid's daughter, who was 18 years old or younger. His daughter ran away from home because she didn't want to live with a girl her own age to tell her what to do. My grandmother got very sick after that because her granddaughter ran away, which in those days was shameful. Grandmother Stathoula died shortly after that. I think the girl is living in Athens. I wonder if she married. In the meantime John Eftaxas had a son by this woman and inherited the olive farm and everything else. I think he still lives in Mistra. I don't know if his mother is still living. You should look them up when you go to Greece."

(July 2014 - I met Tina Manokas (related through Kakaletris family) when we were staying at the Divani Palace Hotel in Athens. She called me and told me that she just learned from a relative that John Eftaxias had a gift of healing people who had problems with their spleen. He would say a prayer over them and they would recover. People came from all around, over the mountains, to be healed by him. His family asked if he would write the prayer down and put it in a trunk, so when he died, his children could know the prayer and continue the healing, but he refused.}
