Anna DEARDORFF

(31 January 1818 - 14 October 1878)

Per Chet Peters Book: Ann lived with her parents on a farm in Preble Co., Ohio until she married. She was a frugal wife, and was skilled in spinning and weaving, and had all the necessary capabilities to make a home for her family. David came to Ohio from Va., leaving home as soon as he was of age. He was skilled in many manual crafts, among which was shoemaking. He made his way through Ohio and Indiana by repairing shoes whenever he needed funds. In 1831, he entered his first Government land about 5 miles east of Ladoga, IND. This land he purchased for $1.25 per acre. David later acquired more property in Montgomery and Boone Co's, and at his death left different tracts to his various children. He purchased and operated a saw mill, making lumber not only for his own use, but also for the neighbors. Ann was a member of the Dunkard Church all her life, but David did not join until he was 88 years old. He was however, generous in supporting the activities of his wife's church.
