Lancaster County Deeds, Book Lb: 184–85.Barbara Newman of Stark County, the wife of John Newman, is named as one of theheirs to Lawrence Herchelroth’s Lancaster County estate, and Catherine Herchelroth is named asLawrence’s widow.136
Barbara was married to John Newman by the time her father died [in 1804]. That parental estatedistribution says that Lawrence left “Catharine Hargelrode his widow and nine children his heirsat law among whom was Barbara who was at the time ... intermarried with one JohnNewman.”1

Lancaster County Wills BK-P, p. 644 Family History Library Film 2,1860 A transcription In the Name of God Amen, I Catharine Herchelroth of Elizabeth Township in the County of Lancaster, Widow, being Old but of sound mind memory and understanding and I consider being the uncertainty of this transitory life, make this my last will and testament in manner following; Imprimis, I recommend my soul into the hands of God who gave it and my body to the earth to be buried in a decent Christian like manner and as such worldly estate with which it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give and dispose of the same as follows. First, I give and bequeath all my wearing apparel to my daughters to be equally divided between them, Item, it is my will that all the remainder of my personal estate shall be sold at public vendue, Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Catharine, the wife of George Rock the sum of Sixty dollars and to my daughter Elizabeth Enck the sum of Sixty dollars and to my daughter Barbara the wife of John Numan the sum of Sixty dollars and to my daughter Juliana the wife of Daniel Miller the sum of Sixty dollars and to my daughter Eve the wife of John Howenslund the sum of sixty dollars all the remainder of my estate after my just and lawful debts and funeral expenses are paid thereof and the above said legacies, it is my will and I order and [?[ shall be equally divided to and amongst my now children or their heirs and legal representatives of such who are dead or may die, hereafter, but the share which will come to my grand children of my sons Lawrence Herchelroad shall remain in the hands of my executors until they shall respectively come to their lawful age to receive the same. And lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my son Henry Herchelroad and my neighbor Peter martin to be the executors of this my Last Will and testament. . . .
