Death

Nancy Furr Benfield. Mrs. Benfield, 71, of Concord, NC, formerly of Charlotte, NC, died Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at Presbyterian Hospital. She was born January 5, 1933 in Stanfield, NC, and was the daughter of the late Emma Huneycutt Furr and Rufus L. Furr. She was married November 12, 1950 to the late Zemma Rotan Benfield who preceded her in death on March 9, 2003. She was associated with Barhardt Manufacturing Company as a seamstress for fifteen years. Survivors include her children, Gary Rotan Benfield of Monroe, NC, Denise Rhodes and her husband Jerry of Concord, NC, Cathy VanDyke and her husband Rob of Belmont, NC, Sherry Young and her husband Calvin of Concord, NC; sisters, Maxine Creed, Billie Jean Kelbaugh, Peggy Burleson, all of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Malcom Furr and Bob Furr, both of Oakboro, NC; 6 grandchildren, Paul Curlee, Jay Chastain, David VanDyke, Priscilla McDaniel and her husband Michael, Shannon Young and Shellie Rhodes; and two great grandchildren, Stephen Curlee and Matthew McDaniel. A brother, Wayne Furr of Oakboro, NC, also preceded her in death. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2004 at Eastway Baptist Church where she was a member, with the Rev. Michael Owens officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2004 at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel.
